Amro joins 100+ business leaders calling for urgent planning reform

Ami Kotecha, co-founder and President of Amro Partners, has joined more than 100 co-signatories in an open letter to PM Rishi Sunak, calling for urgent reforms to the English planning system to deliver net zero and nature regeneration

Coordinated by the UK Green Building Council (UKGBC), the letter to the Prime Minister and three Secretaries of State has been signed by business leaders from across the built environment sector. It calls on the Government to amend the Levelling Up and Regeneration Bill, currently passing through Parliament, to directly align the planning system with the UK’s climate commitments and adaptation goals under the Climate Change Act, and nature restoration targets under the Environment Act.

The coalition warns the Government that the current planning system is not providing a consistent approach to handling climate change and environmental considerations, creating delays, costs and legal challenges.

The letter demonstrates the breadth and depth of support for these urgent reforms, which will break down existing barriers to sustainable development by enabling consistent direction and encouraging investment.

Ami Kotecha said, “Aligning planning reform with climate goals is crucial to our success in building a future green economy, unlocking investment in low carbon infrastructure and reversing nature breakdown.

“We urge the Government to take action now, before the Levelling Up Bill is passed and this small window of opportunity closes.
