The awards were established in 2016 to celebrate, recognise and promote organisations and initiatives at the forefront of the student housing and shared living sectors. Best Sustainable Student Property celebrates the innovative student housing projects that have most successfully incorporated sustainability throughout their design, construction and operation, paving the way for next generation living.
Setting new standards for the sector, Amro Seville is a trailblazing student housing project, being the first in Europe to achieve BREEAM Outstanding, Fitwel 3* and WiredScore Platinum ratings. The EPC ‘A’ rated building produces operational emissions of just 11.2kg CO2 / sqm per year, representing a 75% improvement on efficiency standards compared to the wider market and superseding RIBA 2025 emissions objectives by 12%.
The design follows a fabric first approach, minimising energy demand through passive measures, with PV panels producing electricity on site with zero reliance on fossil fuels. The installation of a BEMS (Building Energy Management System) enables us to monitor the energy consumption of the building, with sensors continuously measuring internal temperature, humidity, CO2 and pollution, providing valuable information to help influence tenant behaviour.
The health and wellbeing of residents at Amro Sevilla is paramount. The design supports healthy lifestyles by encouraging stair use over lifts and providing access to shared amenities including a gym, swimming pool, co-working areas and indoor/outdoor social spaces with access to good quality, locally produced food.
Occupancy rates of over 85% for Amro Seville’s first operational year (2022/23) are testament to strong demand for professionally managed, highly sustainable and, we hope, soon to be award-winning student housing!
